Ricardo Miguel Dinis
Composer for Film, Games and Animation
“Storytelling and Music are two sides of the same coin. The end-goal is to take you on a journey towards something you have never experienced before”
A professional composer and producer, as well as film, videogame and animation enthusiast and a hobbyist writer. Ricardo has a long history of exploring the aspects of storytelling.
As a child, he was constantly inspired by epic fantasy films and animation series on TV, sharing their impact with his friends in playful imagination or experiencing them through (perhaps too long) video games sessions. Listening to their music while contemplating the borderless plane of human creativity.
“I specialize in crafting a unique and expansive musical identity for each project. I achieve this through a process of combining different genres and musical textures with a touch of musical sound design.”
Having written his first musical piece for violin at the age of 6, Ricardo has since expanded his repertoire both in his musical education and experience, as well as his storytelling abilities.
Starting initially with only violin studies in a classical setting, Ricardo soon realized the limitations this imposed on his creativity, and as such, picked up many instruments and genres along the way. Diving into Classical Orchestral Music, Contemporary, Indie Rock, Jazz, Metal, EDM, and many others. He did not stop there however.
Realizing that there were many forms of musical storytelling that extended beyond genre, by researching musical forms and mediums, this eventually led him to Film Music and Video Game Music, calling him back to his roots and interest in storytelling.
“Performing other composers musical works was limiting my creativity, I needed to craft my own sound. I needed to tell stories.”
Taking his interest in composition and production further, upon graduating the Conservatory and furthering his studies in university for violin performance in Portugal, he had a shift in perspective when he realized his true creative ambitions and quit performing to dive fully into composition for film.
He sought to study Composition for Media at Musicube Academy in Bonn, Germany during the Covid Pandemic in 2020. During which time, he rounded many projects through international networking with creatives from all over the world in the forms of short films, animations and even being awarded in international composition contests during this time.
Upon graduation he followed his studies even further by taking Composition for Film and Theatre at the ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem, Netherlands.
From there on he expanded his works and began working as a full-time composer, further exploring his music through video game music, completing the circle.
